Thanks for your post David. I'm glad you highlighted the bigger picture (or soundscape...)

Sound Strategies' dilemma is how to convince people that this is an issue. Only when they realise there is problem are they likely to seek out the expertise to help solve it.

Michael, I can but agree with the thrust of your argument. The extent of change is deeply cultural.

The ability of any person in an organisation to create a cross departmental and non hierarchical group because of the nature of electronic communication (from email to social media behind the firewall) means that they have the capability of building a power base. In an age of outsourcing (including cloud computing) firewalls are not as solid as they once were. Thus a power base can be in-part, external.

Add to the this a philosophical view of open source competition/partnership and there is a heady mix for management to understand and manage.

In a time when a lot of skilled people have time on their hands and we can expect a lot of change.

It will not be sudden but the seeds of change that have been with us for some time will now find warm space and nourishment to take hold.

The 'New PR' (Philip Young's expression not mine) turns current practice on its head.

I have great difficulty explaining to practitioners that they need to draw people towards their perspective as opposed to manipulation of mass communication.

This week, I was asked to recommend a course of online action to present the views of a European Union Department to young people in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

When I asked how these folk might express or already are expressing their views first there was silence. I obviously had not understood their brief. They are presenting policy - it had already been through The Council and Parliament and that was that.

This is by no means a subject that will weigh heavily on their (so called) 'target audience' but will be another little niggle that will support more violent reactions in time.

As with the EU, so too for all organisations.

We have a lot to lean and a long way to go to this year.

Hello Everyone, advertising in newspapers and magazines can be more expensive but isn't always justified by the results. Now a days newspaper and magazine advertisng is playing a vital in growing sales and business.
